11Updates
We may update this policy from time to time. Please check back periodically for any changes. The latest version will always be available on our website. This policy was last updated on 9 October 2026, when section 12 was updated for the Android app.
12The FM Talk app
The FM Talk app for iPhone, iPad and Android is published by EMC & Associates. It has no accounts: you do not sign in, and we do not know who you are unless you choose to tell us. The app handles information in four ways.
- Notifications. If you allow notifications, Apple (on iPhone and iPad) or Google (on Android, through Firebase Cloud Messaging) gives the app a device token, and delivers the notifications we send to it. We store the token so that we can send you the headline when a new story is published. It identifies your device, not you. It is held by Supabase in Ireland. When you turn notifications off in your device settings or delete the app, the token stops working, and we mark it inactive the next time Apple or Google tells us so; you can also ask us to delete it.
- How the app is used. The app records anonymous usage events, such as which stories and sections are opened, under a random identifier that is created when the app is installed and is not connected to your name, email address, Apple ID or Google account. These events are processed by PostHog in the European Union. They are not used for advertising and are not shared with advertisers.
- Enquiries and the newsletter. If you send an enquiry from the end of an article, we receive the name, organisation, email address and message you type, together with the title of the story you were reading, and we use them to reply to you. If you join the FM Talk newsletter from the app, we receive your email address and add it to the newsletter list. Each submission also includes the app version and your device type and operating system version, so we can deal with any problem with the app. Both reach us through Make.com and are stored in Brevo, as described in sections 03 and 05, and the rest of this policy applies to them.
- On your device only. Stories you save, your reading history and your type size preference stay on your device and are never sent to us. Deleting the app deletes them.
The app is free, contains no advertising and does not track you across other apps or websites. Questions about the app can be sent to hello@emcassociates.co.uk.
